We held our signature conference, the Fall Foliage Cancer Conference, on October 15 & 16 2021 in person at the Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC after holding it virtually last year due to the pandemic. With Covid restrictions in place, the attendees learned about the latest on Sarcoma and Melanoma. The conference was hosted by Dr. Charles Thomas II, Radiation Oncologist and activity Co-Director, who was the founder of the conference 33 years ago! We applaud Dr. Thomas for his ongoing commitment to providing top-notch cancer education to physicians.
The conference has a reputation of featuring experts in their field as faculty, and this year was no exception. With lecturers coming from such distinguished institutions such as Harvard Medical School, Duke University, Mayo Clinic, Moffitt Cancer Center, and others, the attendees came away with an understanding of the newest surgical treatments, radiation therapy, gene expression profiling and immunotherapy for sarcomas and melanomas. The intimate setting allowed for extensive interactions between the faculty and attendees.
Vendors filled the exhibit area and physicians had ample opportunity to mingle with them and hear about their latest products. A big thank you goes to Deciphera Pharmaceuticals for sponsoring the luncheon on Friday.
When not attending the sessions, attendees had the chance to explore the historic Grove Park Inn, built in 1913, and the surrounding area. The leaves were just starting to turn beautiful Fall colors and the air was crisp in the evening. Asheville is a vibrant town, featuring many award-winning restaurants and craft breweries, a flourishing arts and crafts scene, numerous outdoor activities, and of course the Blue Ridge Parkway nearby.
Next year’s conference will be held on October 21 – 22, 2022: Save the Date!
